It also facilitates global multidisciplinary collaborative innovations in health care 3D printing and helps with quality control, standardization, and scaling of health care 3D printing.

There are several main goals to this event: 1) Meeting the maker community in Amsterdam 2) Curating collaborative innovation community focusing on healthcare applications using 3D printing 3) Understand the current state and challenges of collaborative innovation with people from different background and organizations 4) Discover startups in and around Amsterdam.

Jenny Chen is a neuroradiologist, entrepreneur, founder of 3DHEALS. Her main interests are medical education, health care 3D printing, and artificial intelligence. She is also a current adjunct clinical faculty at Stanford Healthcare Radiology department.

Jan Wolff, Ph.D., Dr. Med.Dent (VUMC, 3D Innovation Lab )
Jan Wolff (Asst Prof, Dr.med.dent, Ph.D.) 2001-2002 Jan Wolff studied dentistry at the University of Marburg and Hannover Germany and graduated in 1995. He received A German doctoral degree “Dr.med.dent” in dentistry in 1997. After his doctorate, he spent one year (1996-1997) at the Department of Periodontology Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. He then pursued a specialization in oral surgery at the University of Düsseldorf, Germany and graduated as a specialist in oral surgery in 2001. From 2001-2002 he worked at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery University Stockholm, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. From 2003 to 2009 Jan Wolff was self-employed and worked in his own private clinic in Hamburg, Germany. After selling his clinic in 2009 he moved to his native country Finland and worked at the University of Tampere, Finland as a senior researcher and senior surgeon. Furthermore, he was employed as a senior researcher at the Department of Radiology Tampere University Hospital. In 2013, he moved to the Netherlands and has ever since been working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery VUmc University Hospital Amsterdam, The Netherlands, where he heads the 3D Innovation lab. In 2016 Jan Wolff received a Ph.D. degree (Reconstruction of the craniomaxillo-mandibular skeleton: problems and solutions) in medicine from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
Title: Challenges in medical 3D printing
Talk Summary: Computer-assisted surgery (CAS) encompasses a range of technologies such as virtual surgical planning, 3D printing, virtual/augmented reality and robotics, which are slowly becoming an important part of the surgery. These technologies require very accurate CT or CBCT images that are subsequently converted of into 3D surface models of the anatomical structure of interest. This process currently requires many different steps and manipulations that are dependent on the technicians/physicians spatial abilities, knowledge of anatomy and the quality of the CT/CBCT images. Moreover, the conversion DICOM to STL process often results in data loss.
Riley works at TNO as innovation program manager focusing on end-use 3D printing in medical and pharmaceuticals. Prior to TNO, Riley cofounded Arevo in Silicon Valley. Arevo introduced advanced materials, intelligent software, and deposition technology to print end-use composite parts. Riley also worked at Stryker as an advanced senior quality engineer integrating surgeon feedback into device design prior to launch. Riley first discovered 3D printing during his master’s research on electrospun heart tissue scaffolds. He studied at UC Berkeley, where he received a B.S. in Bioengineering and Materials Science and Engineering and an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering.
Talk: What needs to happen to reach the future of personalized healthcare
Summary: Many have painted spectacular visions for the future of personalized healthcare, yet no one has provided a realistic path to get there. As a result, these visions grossly overestimated the actual progress made over the last 5 to 10 years. The medical industry is one of the most heavily regulated markets and historically innovation is slow. 3D printing provides a platform for rapid innovation, but the reliability is still not good enough for mass producing personalized products. This talk will focus on the barriers in moving 3D printing into mass customization and how collaboration across the medical value chain will overcome these barriers.
Merijn is an entrepreneur for over 10 years. He is the co-founder of Boulton Eyewear. The company started out as a consumer brand for tailor-made eyewear; all frames are made on demand using the latest professional 3D scanners and printers. Currently the main focus for Boulton is to help other companies to automate their mass-customization efforts. This goes from design to data collection and the creation of dedicated customization software. In this role Boulton has recently joined the Silou Elle team.
